Project Summary
The project requires acquiring a 15’ drainage easement adjacent south of 1034 Canal Street to provide positive drainage for the roadside ditch system on the north side of Canal Street. An 18-inch pipe would be constructed within the proposed drainage easement to provide positive discharge of stormwater runoff and flood reduction.
Community Benefit
This project is part of the Drainage Improvements Program, under the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The objective of the project is to eliminate repetitive flooding on the north side of Canal Street near 1030 and 1032 Canal Street. The proposed improvements will reduce the risk of future flooding, mitigate future damage to residential properties, and support long-term recovery by addressing a disaster-related impact to public infrastructure, consistent with HUD CDBG-DR requirements. Additionally, this project is going to upgrade stormwater infrastructure and provide water quality improvements through filtering pollutants from stormwater runoff. This project will be carried out under the Infrastructure Program to address (1) known infrastructure deficiencies, (2) provide mitigation and resilience measures to better protect infrastructure from increased frequency and severity of storm events, and (3) align with the County’s long-term recovery and resiliency strategy.
