Project Summary

This project will require the construction of storm sewer and ditch bottom inlets, improvement to an existing drainage system in the right-of-way from Lee Street to Old Hillsborough Avenue, and additional cross drain to be constructed under Old Hillsborough Avenue to provide connectivity to the north of Old Hillsborough Avenue, as well as restoration of the right-of-way. This project will convert an earthen open drainage system into a hybrid closed – concrete channel system. This new system will span over three 2-lane residential roads including Old Hillsborough Ave, Ross St, and Lee St. This project will install 314 LF (0.6 mi) of various sized pipes and approximately 350 LF of concrete ditch.

Community Benefit

The objective of the project is to provide relief to the immediate community via the construction of drainage and stormwater infrastructure improvements. The proposed improvements will reduce the risk of future flooding, mitigate future damage to residential properties, and support long term recovery by addressing a disaster-related impact to public infrastructure, consistent with HUD CDBG-DR requirements. Additionally, this project is going to upgrade stormwater infrastructure and provide water quality improvements through filtering pollutants from stormwater runoff. This project will be carried out under the Infrastructure Program to address (1) known infrastructure deficiencies, (2) provide mitigation and resilience measures to better protect infrastructure from increased frequency and severity of storm events, and (3) align with the County’s long-term recovery and resiliency strategy.
