Project Summary

This drainage improvement project consists of conveyance improvements between Lateral “B” and a new outfall at Palm River near the north end of South 70th Street. Project scope of work includes the following: (1) Remove an existing 36-inch Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) under Kingston Drive, which is tied into the curb inlets at the intersection of Kingston Drive and Papaya Drive; (2) Discharge the Winston Park Unit 1 and Winston Park Unit 2 stormwater runoff to Lateral “B” on the east side of South 76th Street; and (3) Replace a 43-inch by 68-inch Elliptical Reinforced Concrete Pipe (ERCP) from Lateral “B” at the intersection of Destin Drive and South 76th Street Progress Blvd running along Destin Drive to a new inlet at Papaya Drive.

Community Benefit

The primary objective of this project is to provide flood protection by reducing the peak stage, as well as the overall duration of the flooding. Flood protection and drainage benefits include meeting the targeted Flood Protection Level of Service (FPLOS) goals for the project, which are Level B for collector roads like Palm River Rd and Level C for local roads (e.g., South 76th Street) based on the County's 2020 FPLOS scale and reducing the mean-year/24-hour flood depth/duration. The project will also help with public safety benefits by improving roadside areas, vehicular traffic, pedestrian traffic, and cyclist traffic.
