Project Summary
This project will include the construction of a storm sewer with inlets to provide collection and conveyance of stormwater runoff to an existing storm sewer on the east side of Bill Jackson Rd near the northwest corner of 8603 West Hillsborough Avenue. This project is in a flat area between the two crossing streets of Bill Jackson Rd and Jackson Springs Rd. There are road and shoulder improvements proposed as well as the installation of 225 LF (0.04 mi) of pipe.
Community Benefit
This project is part of the Drainage Improvements Program, under the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The objective of the project is to eliminate repetitive flooding on Bill Jackson Road between Stanley Drive and West Hillsborough Avenue, east of 5405 Sheldon Road. This portion of Bill Jackson Road is lower than the surrounding area and lacks a storm sewer to provide conveyance for stormwater runoff. This project aims to add several inlets connecting to the existing system in an effort to drain this area more efficiently. The proposed improvements will reduce the risk of future flooding, mitigate future damage to properties, and support long term recovery by addressing a disaster related impact to public infrastructure, consistent with HUD CDBG DR requirements. Additionally, this project is going to upgrade stormwater infrastructure and provide water quality improvements through filtering pollutants from stormwater runoff. This project will be carried out under the Infrastructure Program to address (1) known infrastructure deficiencies, (2) provide mitigation and resilience measures to better protect infrastructure from increased frequency and severity of storm events, and (3) align with the County’s long-term recovery and resiliency strategy.
