Summary
The Culvert projects consist of a countywide program to repair, rehabilitate, replacement, and construct culvert infrastructure across all 4 districts Hillsborough County. Culverts are drainage structures that carry stormwater beneath roadways, driveways, and other infrastructure to help maintain the movement of water throughout the County's stormwater system. Project activities may include replacing culvert pipes and box culverts, repairing headwalls and retaining walls, stabilizing banks, installing erosion protection measures, restoring disturbed areas, and constructing new culvert infrastructure where needed to improve drainage system connectivity and function.
Community Benefit
The Culvert projects will improve the flow of stormwater throughout the County by repairing and replacing critical drainage crossings that were impacted during the 2024 hurricane season. By reducing bottlenecks in the drainage system, the culvert projects will help alleviate localized flooding, minimize strain on nearby roads and infrastructure, and reduce the potential for recurring flood-related property damage. These improvements will support more reliable drainage conditions and reduce repetitive flooding in vulnerable areas.
