Summary
The Pump Station projects consist of resiliency improvements to stormwater pump stations throughout Hillsborough County, including the construction of a new permanent pump station at Lake Shangri-La in Seffner, to address infrastructure vulnerabilities identified during the 2024 hurricane season. Pump stations are critical components of the County's stormwater management system that move stormwater from low-lying areas to receiving water bodies when gravity drainage alone is insufficient. Project activities may include the repair, rehabilitation, replacement, or hardening of pump station equipment and supporting infrastructure to improve system performance, reliability, and resilience during severe weather events.
Community Benefit
The Pump Station projects will improve the County's ability to manage stormwater in low-lying and flood-prone areas by enhancing the reliability of critical pumping infrastructure during severe weather events. By maintaining stormwater removal during heavy rainfall, storm surge, and power outages, the projects will help reduce the duration and severity of flooding and improve drainage performance when it is most necessary. In addition, the new permanent pump station at Lake Shangri-La will provide an automated solution to recurring roadway flooding, which will improve access and mobility for nearby residents and travelers during future storm events.
